Teaching Art EC 12
The Teaching Art EC 12 curriculum is the first two years of a track designed for students who plan to complete a bachelor’s degree and be certified to teach music in the public schools. The degree was developed by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and serves as a guide for colleges and universities in structuring the first two years of a curriculum for art education majors.
Program Outcomes
- Exhibit a basic knowledge of art including history, appreciation and creation.
- Model behavior consistent with a teaching professional.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the requirements to be a public school teacher.
Critical Thinking Skills: Creative thinking, innovation, inquiry, and analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of information, using technology as appropriate.
Communication Skills: Effective development, interpretation, and expression of ideas through written, oral, and visual communication.
Empirical and Quantitative Skills: Manipulation and analysis of numerical data or observable facts resulting in informed conclusions.
Teamwork:Ability to be flexible and to consider different points of view and to work effectively with others, taking the initiative when appropriate, to support a shared purpose or goal.
Social Responsibility: Intercultural competence, knowledge of civic responsibility, and the ability to engage effectively in regional, national, and global communities.
Personal Responsibility: A strong work ethic and the ability to connect choices, actions, and consequences to ethical decision-making.
Career Information
The Teaching Art EC-12 AA degree prepares the student to enter a four-year institution’s Theater Arts Education degree program.
